Job Description Position Overview
Job Description / What is Ursystems' Project Management Support (PM Support)?
We support the project managers of client companies in various projects, such as the implementation of business systems and the launch of new services, as their advisors. Although the project managers of client companies are business professionals, they do not necessarily have sufficient knowledge of project management. We help them to understand the schedule, milestones, elements to consider, and pitfalls to watch out for. We help the responsible party take the right action. Management needs vary depending on the size of the client's company, organizational structure, corporate culture, and the type and scale of the project. ULS provides full customization of the support required for each client's situation. The following are specific examples of projects.
1) Large-scale core system replacement support
When a large company is renewing or modernizing its core system on a large scale, it is often a multi-consultant, multi-vendor project involving multiple consulting and system development firms. We provide support to help clients take the initiative in such projects. In this type of project, we review the output of the consulting and system development firms, which gives us a strong sense of vendor control. However, if the client is the bottleneck, we support the client's activities to facilitate input to the vendor. We do not simply manage the process, but stand between the user and the vendor to ensure the success of the project. We provide support from the conceptualization phase to the procurement and delivery phases, so it is not unusual for projects to take two to three years to complete.
(2) Support for service providers focusing on in-house production
Some companies that place digital at the core of their business do not outsource system development, but instead produce their own systems in-house. When supporting such companies, there is a strong sense of collaboration with the client. We provide support in the form of supplementing elements that the client lacks, such as management and technology. The most common need is for advisory services for in-house production teams. We advise in-house teams composed of employees from the client company and its subcontractors to ensure that they are working efficiently. Sometimes we develop rules and processes to ensure that engineers with varying skills and experience can work together. In this case, the way of working is similar to that of a prime vendor who directs a large number of subcontractors. In some companies, multiple in-house teams may be developing their respective services in parallel. In such cases, program management may be responsible for coordinating multiple projects so that they are consistent with each other.
③Starting up new services and PoC (small scale x playing management)
We sometimes support projects that require trial-and-error and short-term results, such as the launch of a new service or PoC. In such projects, the scale of the project is small and the number of staff is small, so the element of playing manager becomes strong. In some cases, we design and develop the system in cooperation with the vendor. When promoting agile development, you may also be asked to serve as an agile coach or scrum master.
Background of Recruitment
This position is in the DX Promotion Department under the Consulting Division, which specializes in project management support. Currently, we are in a situation where we are turning down inquiries from clients. We are actively recruiting for this position because we are unable to respond to requests for additional staff.
Our employees come from a variety of backgrounds, including SIer, business companies, and consulting firms.
The real thrill of working with Ursystems' PM support
ULS Systems' client support consulting promotes projects from the client's perspective. Compared to consulting firms and SIers, you can gain consulting experience from a position closer to the customer.
As a consultant or SIer, you may wonder why they don't decide on the requirements, why they can't tell you the specifications, why they don't approve the project, and so on. But all you can do is wait and see. In client-side project management, we solve the client's problems while also solving the client's problems.
ULS consultants do not take on specific solutions. Since we are not constrained to take business with a specific solution, we are always able to recommend the best options to our clients as IT professionals. By always communicating honestly, we can also become a true advisor to our clients!
On large scale projects of several billion yen to several tens of billions of yen, there is a sense of accomplishment with several hundred people on the vendor side, but on the client side like this company, there is a different sense of accomplishment with several people working through the project as a PMO.
If the client is in-house, we work together with the client to promote the project. We work with a sense of being more involved than the client, so you can get a sense of accomplishment like a successful contractor who changes jobs one by one and leads a company to success.
Career Path
After acquiring basic consulting skills during the 2-week introductory training after joining the company, you will start working on projects where you can make the most of your “strengths” such as skills and experience. We respect your wishes as much as possible when assigning you to subsequent projects. After gaining experience in the DX Promotion Department, you can challenge yourself in upstream departments such as conceptualization and planning.
Working style
The average overtime hours for the entire company is 22.85 hours.
It varies depending on the status of the project, but the entire company controls overtime so that it does not exceed 45 hours. This is an environment where you can balance your personal and professional life.
